exhibition Exhibition “Red Terror and Georgian Artists“

Georgian National Museum presents the exhibition “Red Terror and Georgian Artists” at GNM, Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia.
The mass repressions known as the “Red Terror"- the powerful weapon directed towards total control - touched upon all layers and age categories of society.
The mass repressions hit Georgian and foreign artists living in Georgia as well, their creative and public activities had been counting decades for 1937-1938.
They stood in the vanguard of the country’s art processes. Henryk Hryniewski, Dimitri Shevadnadze, Vakhtang Kotetishvili, Richard Sommer, Petre Otskheli and many more were accused of either counterrevolutionary activities or espionage and were executed.
Kiril Zdanevich, Ivane Pataridze and Vasily Shukhaev spent years in expatriation.
Ria Mikadze and Nino Zaalishvili were charged as “Family members of public enemies” - repressions took everything they had, sometimes even their lives.
Those who survived being executed or expatriated, still continued to live in conditions of limited freedom of expression and their creative life suffered the pressure under Tsarist and later Communist Russia.

exhibition Georgian National Museum in cooperation with the Katyn Museum, the division of the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw and the Polish Institute in Tbilisi, present the exhibition "Katyn - It has been an unusual morning" at Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia, Soviet Occupation Exhibition Hall.

The exhibition is dedicated to the Katyń Massacre - to the fate of the victims of Soviet occupation during the Second World War.

The Katyń Massacre - the murder of about 22,000 Polish POWs and prisoners captured after 17 September 1939 perpetrated by the NKVD in the spring of 1940, which left a heavy mark on the pages of Polish history. The story of the Katyń massacres is not limited to the time of the tragic events but extends to their implications and all actions were undertaken after 1940: reprisals against the prisoners' families, deportations, a whole spectrum of persecutions, destructive propaganda and decades of silence from the international community regarding the Soviet atrocities. The mass executions were only the beginning of the harsh fate the Polish people would suffer under Soviet occupation.

exhibition Lia Bagrationi – “A Mad Tea-Party”

Georgian National Museum in the framework of the Project “Contemporary Art Gallery” presents the solo exhibition of Lia Bagrationi “A Mad Tea-Party” at Tbilisi History Museum. Lia Bagrationi's personal exhibition "A Mad Tea Party" is the exposition created by the artist's recent works in all three halls of the Tbilisi History Museum. The Exhibition represents completely new projects as well as older ones with more or less visual transformations.
The exhibition examines the interaction of randomness, visible and invisible, memory and material, and tries to answer the questions: how do these concepts translate into the language of the material? How does clay answer the aesthetic tasks? How the functionality and physicality of clay are transformed into a visual concept?
The project comprises a three-day workshop in collaboration with the artists: Manuel Canu (Denmark) and Alexandra Engelfriet (The Netherlands), as well as a roundtable and a presentation of the catalog.
The project “Contemporary Art Gallery” was elaborated in 2016 by the Georgian National Museum, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.
